In March 2025, England's first licensed wild beavers swam out into a lake in Dorset.

Beaver facts
- On 5 March 2025 the National Trust released two pairs of Eurasian beavers at Little Sea in Purbeck, Dorset: the first licensed wild release in England.
- It came a week after Defra and Natural England announced, on 28 February 2025, that wild releases could be licensed.
- The Purbeck beavers were relocated by the Beaver Trust from the River Tay catchment in Scotland.
- Little Sea is a 33-hectare lake on England's first Super National Nature Reserve.
- In early 2026 Natural England licensed two more wild release projects, with more to follow.
